A New Skin Grafting Option

Podiatrists may want to take a closer look at a new approach to skin grafting to help close acute and chronic wounds.

The CelluTome Epidermal Harvesting System is designed to consistently and reliably harvest epidermis at the dermoepidermal junction, which allows skin grafting without the need for donor site anesthesia, notes the manufacturer Kinetic Concepts, Inc (KCI).

The new skin grafting platform will enable physicians to harvest epidermis grafts while minimizing donor site complications, explains the company.

According to the company, the CelluTome system offers an automated, precise and reproducible process of harvesting autologous, non-damaged epidermal tissue. The manufacturer adds that one can use the CelluTome Epidermal Harvesting System in conjunction with VAC Therapy (KCI).

A Shield Against Shoe Odor

A new antimicrobial spray utilizes a nanosilver formula to shield patients against shoe odor.

The Clean Sweep™ Antimicrobial Shoe Shield™ works inside the shoe and the manufacturer Tetra says the product can destroy 99.9 percent of odor-causing bacteria and fungus on contact. Clean Sweep also keeps patients’ footwear free of microbes through the use of a clear and flexible antimicrobial micro-coating, according to the company.

Furthermore, Tetra notes that when the shoe shield’s silver nanoparticles come in contact with moisture, they release very low levels of silver ions to prevent the growth of microbes.
