Picturing Wounds Accurately

As wounds progress through different stages of healing, it is important to have an accurate method of tracking their progress.      With the new PictZar® medical software program, one would take a digital photo and load that photo and a ruler into the computer, according to Medline Industries, the manufacturer of the software program. The company says the product then accurately calibrates to the ruler and measures the wound’s length, width, circumference and area.      Medline says PictZar can generate charts and graphs to track the change in the wound. It can also produce reports in Microsoft Word and Excel, according to the company.      Company: Medline Industries      Product: PictZar®      For more info, circle 399 on your reader service card

Soothing Plantar Fasciitis

A new night splint provides several layers of care for patients with plantar fasciitis.      The Plantar Fasciitis Night Splint can help soothe the pain and inflammation associated with the condition, according to the device’s manufacturer Sroufe Healthcare Products. The splint positions the foot with controlled dorsiflexion and its adjustable dorsiflexion straps gently stretch the plantar fascia and Achilles tendon. The company says these benefits decrease pain, muscle contracture and inflammation.      Sroufe says the splint has a soft and breathable foam interior that aids in reducing heat buildup, and the low-profile, lightweight shell is both breathable and sturdy. The splint is available in women’s sizes 7, 7.5 to 10 and 10.5, and in men’s sizes up to 7.5, 8 to 10.5 and 14.      Company: Sroufe Healthcare Products      Product: Plantar Fasciitis Night Splint      For more info, circle 400 on your reader service card

The company says the product allows surgeons and OR staff to pass scalpels during surgery and safely store them.      Surgeons can also use SharpsRack in the office to manage scalpels in instrument drawers. Sterile and non-sterile versions are available and the company says the non-sterile version may be used continuously in an office setting.      O’Brien Medical notes the product is constructed of lightweight foam, is easy to clean and can accommodate both round and flat scalpels.      Company: O’Brien Medical      Product: SharpsRack™      For more info, circle 401 on your reader service card

Sandals That Rock

A new line of women’s footwear combines a rocker sole with antibacterial protection.      Four models are available as part of the Stridarc™ Heeled Rocker Sole Sandal Collection. The 12/8 heeled sandals are the Monica, the Miranda, the Megan and the Marian, according to the footwear manufacturer Aravon.      As the company says, the sandals embed a rigid bi-fit board in a rubber outsole, which help the sandals rock feet steadily through the gait cycle.
