A new primary wound closure product may offer your patients comfort and a good cosmetic appearance. The Steri-Strip™ S Surgical Skin Closure can be helpful in managing low-tension lacerations and surgical incisions, according to the product’s manufacturer 3M. The company cites a recent study that demonstrated that closure of surgical wounds with the non-invasive device was two minutes shorter than with simple running sutures. Steri-Strip is made of soft polyurethane pads and interlaced polyester filaments. The company says patients can wear them for seven to 10 days and take short showers without additional covering. The product also allows for more accurate wound alignment, leading to better cosmetic results, according to 3M. These Shoes Were Made For Walking
For your active patients, it is important they have a walking shoe that provides protection as well as comfort. New Balance, the manufacturer of the shoes, says the materials provide both shock absorption and maximum durability in areas with high wear. Reducing Pain And Stimulating Muscles
Podiatrists may turn to a new muscle stimulator to remedy a variety of podiatric problems. The Lectra+4 is a four-channel, multi-mode interferential and muscle stimulator with sequential stimulation. The manufacturer Medi-Stim, Inc. says the product is indicated to manage chronic pain, relieve muscle spasms, increase blood circulation and increase range of motion. Lectra+4 allows treatment of several areas at the same time and patients can use it at home, according to Medi-Stim. Soothing Aching Feet

The Kool ‘N Fit® Foot Spray, which can relieve burning or swollen feet, is all natural, antibacterial and antiseptic, according to the manufacturer Kool N’ Fit. The company says one of the spray’s ingredients is teatree oil, which has antifungal and medicinal qualities. The foot spray also contains menthol, camphor, extracts of eucalyptus oil, melaeuca oil, peppermint oil and various other inactive ingredients, notes the company. An Innovative Implant
The past few years have seen the development of increasingly sophisticated implants and one company has reportedly developed the first pyrocarbon foot implant. The Ascension® PyroSphere® has received FDA approval and is indicated for patients with foot arthritis, according to the manufacturer Ascension Orthopedics, Inc. The company notes the implant is designed for the fourth and fifth tarsometatarsal joints. The PyroSphere is composed of On-X® Carbon, which Ascension says is superior to other pyrocarbon materials.
