Debriding For Successful Wound Healing

For the latest in debriding diabetic ulcers, turn to the newest variation on a tried and true papain urea formula.    Gladase™-C is indicated for diabetic and decubitis ulcers, postoperative wounds, burns and various other wounds. Smith and Nephew Wound Management, the manufacturer of the product, says the papain-urea-chlorophyllin copper complex sodium in Gladase-C offers an enzymatic debrider that one can apply throughout treatment to help remove necrotic tissue and liquefy slough.    The company says one should consider using Gladase-C when the goal of treatment shifts from removing necrotic tissue to preserving or promoting tissue granulation.    Smith and Nephew says Gladase-C is cheaper than another leading papain-urea-chlorophyllin copper complex sodium product and 42 states are covering Gladase-C for Medicaid patients.    Company: Smith and Nephew    Product: Gladase™-C    For more info, circle 399 on your reader service card

Post-Op Protection

There are many potential post-surgical pitfalls but one new post-op shoe may help patients avoid some of these dangers.    The Med-Surg™ Shoe’s square toe design provides protection when K-wires protrude from toes and the rocker sole reduces pressure on the forefoot, according to the manufacturer Darco International.    In addition, the shoe offers Meta-Shank™ Protection for more rigid forefoot control as well as a removable EVA insole and strapless forefoot closure, both of which reduce pressure.    The shoe’s zoned outsole facilitates traction under the midfoot, the ankle strap eliminates heel slippage and the raised pronation counter at the heel helps eliminate pronation, according to Darco.    Company: Darco International    Product: Med-Surg™ Shoe    For more info, circle 403 on your reader service card
