Multiple SFA Stent Fractures in an Asymptomatic Patient

Video Supplement to “Asymptomatic, Multiple Stent Fractures of a Superficial Femoral Artery,” by Vijayvergiya, et al. [January 2020 Clinical Images].

A 58-year-old, chronic smoker, hypertensive man presented with right lower-limb claudication of 1-year duration. Doppler ultrasound and CT confirmed proximal long-segment occlusion of the right SFA. The patient had undergone successful angioplasty and stenting of the SFA with 3 overlapping, self-expanding nitinol Smart stents 5 years prior; fluoroscopy during a recent admission for non-Q wave MI revealed multiple stent fractures.
