Balloon Compression Sign During BMV

Video Supplement to “Balloon Compression Sign During Balloon Mitral Valvotomy: An Old Sign Revisited,” by Gupta, et al (December 2020 Clinical Images).

A 50-year-old Indian woman presented with gradually progressive exertional dyspnea for 15 years. Transthoracic echocardiography revealed very severe mitral stenosis and severe tricuspid regurgitation with mild pulmonary hypertension. She was taken for balloon mitral valvotomy. The following video demonstrates indentation and compression of Inoue balloon was seen during inflation, which is indirect evidence of severe subvalvular disease.
