Angiographic Series Demonstrating Iatrogenic Pneumopericardium During Pericardiocentesis

Video Supplement to “Iatrogenic Pneumopericardium During Pericardiocentesis,” by Agstam, et al. (November 2020 Clinical Images).
A 25-year-old woman was diagnosed with massive pericardial effusion with tamponade physiology and was taken for fluoroscopy-guided pericardiocentesis. While removing the syringe from the needle hub for passage of the guidewire, the patient took a deep breath. This accidentally sucked air through the hub of the needle, leading to iatrogenic pneumopericardium. The swinging movements of the heart in tamponade became evident, as demonstrated in this angiographic series.
