Not everybody wants to talk about revenue, but it’s a “necessary evil in the business we do,” said Chris Watanabe, RHIA, CHPS, director of HIM at REMSA, the exclusive ground EMS provider for Washoe County, Nevada, and an air ambulance provider serving an 11-state western region. REMSA has witnessed a 10% increase in transports over the last year, according to Watanabe. The company handles all billing in-house, but outsources its collections and self-pay efforts.
Watanabe outlined the revenue challenges and successes her department has experienced in her session “Ramping Up Your Revenue Cycle Efforts,” during the Data & Technology Summit at EMS World Expo in Las Vegas Oct 19.
