Videos From Expo: A SAFR Model of Health Information Exchange
During the Data & Technology Summit at EMS World Expo in Las Vegas Oct. 19, Dave Zaiman, business development manager for ImageTrend, outlined how Orange County (Calif.) participated in the SAFR model, which stands for Search, Alert, File, Reconcile. SAFR is a federally defined and nationally recognized standard for bidirectional health information exchange (HIE). SAFR is designed to help EMS providers improve data exchange between HIEs and EMS providers to improve care quality and research.
The system can be reproduced across the country.
Zaiman discusses how, with the assistance of grant funding, agencies in the county partnered with a regional HIE network, and outlines the benefits realized by assembling a patient’s entire health record in one place.
