Videos from Expo: Mike Taigman Discusses Safe Integration of New Technologies in EMS

At the Data & Technology Summit at EMS World Expo 2017 in Las Vegas, held Oct. 17–20, veteran EMS educator Mike Taigman, facilitator for the EMS Agenda 2050 initiative, described how the implementation of new ideas and new technologies will shape the future of EMS.

Taigman cautioned that new technologies and medications in EMS tend to be overused at first—using the example of cervical collars and immobilization devices that in the early days of implementation may have done more harm than good.

"How do we inspire innovation [and] development yet have an integration process that evaluates it effectively and makes sure that it does what it is intended to do for the patients that we're caring for in our system?" asked Taigman.
