Difficult Airway Scenario Manikin Intubation Study Published

PRESS RELEASE

OKLAHOMA CITY, OK—Medical device company Adroit Surgical today shared the results of a study published in the Disaster and Emergency Medicine Journal. The study assessed the Vie Scope against the Macintosh laryngoscope.

The study reproduced challenging airway intubation scenarios such as tongue swelling and neck immobilization—situations paramedics encounter frequently.

Key findings of the study included:

  • Intubation time for the Vie Scope was half that of the Macintosh laryngoscope.
  • First pass success was 95.2% for the Vie Scope compared to 64.3% for the Macintosh laryngoscope.

"A greater than 95% first-pass success rate for a paramedic group that underwent minimal training on a new device is virtually unheard of—especially in difficult airway scenarios,” stated Paul Hagen, COO of Adroit Surgical. "The Vie Scope offers a safe, cost-effective solution during these challenging COVID times. It is exciting to see independent studies demonstrating an outstanding first-pass success rate. Details regarding the products can be obtained by contacting our distributor partners or Adroit Surgical directly at 877-7ADROIT or by visiting www.adroitsurgical.com."

The Vie Scope is a self-contained, battery-powered patented bougie introducer that takes advantage of a closed circular tube with a beveled end to visualize the vocal cords. The light is transmitted through the sidewall of the tube from end to end as well as within the lumen of the tube to give the user the best illumination of the target tissue with minimal chance of light obstruction by secretions or blood.

Adroit Surgical LLC is a privately funded medical device company that has developed a patented method for securing the difficult airway in emergency situations that is an alternative to a video laryngoscopy and, in some cases, cricothyroidotomy. The Vie Scope® offers paramedics and doctors the unique ability to handle all adult intubations using only one device. The direct line of sight view for the user will lower patient complications as well as saving time, money, and, most importantly, lives.
