Model EMS Clinical Guidelines Open for Public Comment

The Model EMS Clinical Guidelines were created by NASEMSO with funding from the NHTSA Office of EMS and the Health Resources Services Administration to assist state and local EMS medical directors and leaders in their efforts to provide evidence-based care and improve patient safety and outcomes. The guidelines have been used by a variety of civilian, military, private, and public EMS systems nationally and internationally since they were first created in 2014.
A team of EMS and specialty physicians developed the guidelines, which also have been reviewed by pediatric emergency medicine physicians, pharmacists and other technical experts. Version 3 incorporates updates to existing guidelines (version 2.2), as well as five new guidelines. In creating the model clinical guidelines, the expert panel used applicable prehospital evidence-based guidelines and a consensus-based approach using the best available evidence when EMS evidence-based guidelines do not exist.
