14 Tornadoes Touched Down in North, Central Texas Over Weekend, Weather Service Says

By Lana Ferguson, The Dallas Morning News

Storms produced an estimated 14 tornadoes in North and Central Texas between Friday and Sunday, according to the National Weather Service in Fort Worth.

Preliminary damage surveys showed 10 tornadoes touched down Friday and four ripped through areas on Sunday.

The earlier tornadoes were spread throughout McLennan, Hill, and Navarro counties while the latter occurred in Limestone, Freestone, and Milam counties.

The strongest tornado was an EF-2 southeast of West and southwest of Penelope. Winds from the twister topped 115 mph and it lasted from 12:48 to 1:05 p.m. Friday.

Five other tornadoes Friday were rated EF-1 and the remaining four EF-0. All of Sunday’s recorded tornadoes were rated EF-0 with winds between 75 and 80 mph.

Though Monday provided a reprieve from storms and rain for all of North Texas, chances for precipitation returned to western parts of the region Tuesday. Dallas-Fort Worth’s next chances of rainfall are forecasted to be Wednesday.

The rain will likely linger throughout the rest of the week with the highest chances of storms late Wednesday into Thursday then again late Saturday into Sunday, according to the weather service. A few strong storms are possible.
