N.C. County Tabs New EMS Director
Nov. 22--Michael Cobb, Wilson County's Emergency Medical Services assistant director, has been named the department's new director. He will replace longtime EMS director Terry Barber, who will retire from his post Dec. 31.
Cobb will replace current EMS Director Terry Barber, who will retire Dec. 31 after more than two decades of service for Wilson County.
Barber, who has 43 years of EMS service in North Carolina, has served 27 years with Wilson County.
"I am excited and humbled to be selected as the next leader of Wilson County's Emergency Medical Services," Cobb said in a statement. "It is a great honor to lead our top-notch EMS staff. I look forward to continuing a tradition of quality emergency medical services to all Wilson County citizens."
Cobb has served in various capacities at Wilson County EMS including chaplain, assistant shift supervisor and assistant director. He has worked as an emergency medical technician and in various EMS roles since 1990.
"Michael brings a solid combination of experience, education and emergency medical skills to this position," County Manager Denise Stinagle said in a statement. "He understands the demands of this position and is committed to Wilson County citizens and to EMS staff."
Cobb graduated from Mount Olive College with a degree in business management and organizational development. He also earned an associate degree in emergency medical science from Wilson Community College.
He lives in Wilson with his wife, Paula, and daughter, Rachel.
