Springfield police arrested a Eugene-Springfield Fire paramedic Thursday, accused of raping a woman after drugging her with intravenous medications.

Edward Augustus Blake, 43, of Cheshire, was booked into the Lane County Jail on Thursday morning on suspicion of first-degree rape and causing a person to ingest a controlled substance.

Blake has not yet been formally charged. He is expected to be arraigned Friday afternoon.

Springfield police have been investigating the alleged rape since Sept. 11 when a woman reported to detectives that she was drugged and raped by a person she identified as a firefighter. The woman told police that the alleged rape and drugging occurred at a Springfield motel.

Springfield police believe there may be additional victims and ask that anyone who may have come in contact with Blake to call 541-729-3714.

Additional charges may be pending.

Blake has no prior criminal record. He legally changed his name from Edward Bleak to Edward Blake in 2003, court records show.

First-degree rape is a Measure 11 offense that carries a mandatory minimum sentence of eight years, four months.
