Tribune-Review, Greensburg, Pa.
A Fayette County man has been indicted by a federal grand jury on allegations that he took $136,000 from the Brownsville Ambulance Service Inc. while working as the organization’s treasurer, according to U.S. Attorney Scott Brady.
Edward T. Stevenson, 62, of Newell is accused of mail fraud and theft in an indictment.
Federal authorities said Stevenson issued 132 checks from the ambulance service to himself, cash and his business, Lunden’s Flower Shop in Brownsville, between January 2013 and March 2017. The checks were deposited into bank accounts belonging to Stevenson and the flower shop.
He allegedly altered deposit sheets sent to the ambulance service’s accounting firm to account for the missing money, according to the indictment.
Stevenson pleaded not guilty on Friday during an initial appearance. He is free on $50,000 unsecured bond, according to court filings.
