Berkeley Fire Department Seeks Firefighter/Paramedic Applicants
July 02--BERKELEY -- The Berkeley Fire Department is putting out the call for new firefighter/paramedic applicants.
"Join a department that embraces public service, strives to be a leader in the field and responds effectively with well-trained and compassionate professionals," reads a news release from the department. "Motivated people who seek a career in public service should apply."
A list of requirements and details related to the recruitment process can be found online at www.berkeleyfire.com. Applications will be accepted until 5 p.m. Aug. 1. Qualifying candidates will be scheduled for a written exam in late August.
The 140-member department provides fire suppression, fire prevention, and emergency medical services at the basic and advanced life support levels to a city population of almost 120,000 residents, as well as to its many visitors, the news release notes. The department, which is celebrating its 112th year, responds to more than 14,000 emergencies a year, with seven engines, two trucks, and three Advanced Life Support ambulances.
Established in 1904, the Berkeley Fire Department is believed to have been the first motorized fire department in the western United States, according to the news release.
