Child Critically Injured After Crash With Ga. Ladder Truck

Firefighters rushed to help an unconscious 6-year-old girl after the vehicle she was in collided with their ladder truck in Clayton County Wednesday. She is listed in critical condition.

The girl was one of three sisters in a Mercedes Benz that went through a red light and crashed into the tiller truck, according to the Georgia State Patrol. The fire truck was not responding to a call at the time.

Firefighters found the girl, who was restrained but not in a car seat, without a pulse and not breathing, according to WSBTV.com

Lt. David Leply, Sgt. Christopher Stripling and firefighter Jamal Daniel jumped from the truck and began to render aid.

The 18-year-old driver and her 10-year-old sister were also injured and transported to the hospital. The firefighters were later taken to the hospital for evaluation of minor injuries.

"It's a testament to the medical care they were provided and, you know, the fact that somebody was watching over them,” Clayton County Fire Chief Landry Merkison told the television station.
