Ex-Ambulance Captain in N.J. Indicted in Sexual Assault of Cadet
SUPERIOR COURT -- A Florham Park man who at the time of his arrest was serving as a captain for the Glenwood Pochuck Volunteer Ambulance Corps has been indicted on charges including sexual assault of a 17-year-old cadet, the prosecutor's office said.
A Sussex County grand jury handed up a five-count indictment on April 14, charging Colin Skeele, 29, with second-degree sexual assault, three counts of third-degree endangering the welfare of a child and third-degree promoting obscene material.
After an investigation, Skeele was arrested on Oct. 9, 2015, and again on Oct. 29 by Vernon police and accused of engaging in sexual intercourse with and also showing child pornography to a minor from Vernon.
Sussex County First Assistant Prosecutor Gregory Mueller confirmed that Skeele was a captain with the ambulance corps at the time of his arrest and the victim was a 17-year-old cadet with the corps.
According to a Nov. 18 letter from the state Department of Health, Skeele's emergency medical technician certification was suspended due to the ongoing investigation.
"The department finds that your continued certification as an EMT-Basic constitutes an immediate and serious threat to public health, safety and welfare," the letter sent by Nancy Kelly-Goodstein, the acting director of the department's emergency medical services, said. "You may not, under any circumstance, act in the capacity of, or perform the duties of an EMT-Basic in New Jersey during this period of suspension."
The EMT-Basic certification is "given to one who successfully completes the newly revised 120-hour United States Department of Transportation's Emergency Medical Technician-Basic training program," according to the state.
Skeele, who is free after posting $100,000 bail, will be arraigned within six weeks.
