Ga. County EMS Director Arrested for Sexual Assault, Inappropriate Contact With Inmates

Jennifer Parks

MORGAN, Ga. — Calhoun County EMS Director Susan English Slappey has been arrested twice within a week, and now has warrants against her in multiple counties, law enforcement officials say.

Calhoun County Sheriff Josh Hilton said an investigative team with the Georgia Department of Corrections issued a search warrant on English Slappey’s home that was carried out at 6:30 a.m. on Tuesday. The warrant, he said, stemmed from an investigation that the EMS director had inappropriate contact with inmates.

At the same time her home was being searched, investigators also went into the EMS station. Slappey was arrested at that time for possession of items prohibited for inmates, a charge connected to the accusation of providing contraband. She later bonded out, Hilton said.

Hilton said Slappey, who also has charges against her in Early and Dougherty counties, was picked up again Thursday on the charge of sexual assault by a person of supervisory authority.

Gwendolyn Hogan, spokeswoman for the Department of Corrections, confirmed that the agency did execute a search warrant on English Slappey’s home while working with the Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office on the investigation. Hogan further stated that she is accused of helping to procure contraband in Calhoun, Early and Dougherty counties.

Hilton said the Department of Corrections was the lead agency. Hogan said nothing else was immediately available for release on the investigation Friday.
