Texas City`s Officials to Hear Report on Ambulance Service Needs

Brian Bethel

May 13—ABILENE, Texas—The Abilene City Council will hear a report from fire chief Ken Dozier on Thursday examining whether more ambulance providers are needed in Abilene.

The City Council considered a request April 9 from Allegiance Ambulance to be granted an ambulance service license. The general consensus was that MetroCare, currently the city's singular license holder, had made many improvements during the past four years in regard to emergency service, though there were unanswered questions regarding nonemergency services in Abilene.

The council charged Dozier to contact users of nonemergency ambulance services to ascertain the need for additional providers. He will present the results of those inquiries Thursday.
