BRIEF: Police: Man Calls 911 For Wife So He Can Get Some Sleep

Dec. 22--MIDDLETOWN -- A 54-year old local man was charged with falsely reporting an incident Sunday after police said he called 911, said his wife was having medical difficulities, but later told a officer that he just wanted to go to bed early.

Peter Recchia, of 7 Traverse Square, called 911 and told the dispatcher that his wife was having a medical issue and was not alert.

The fire department and Hunter's Ambulance responded, only to find Recchia's wife sitting in a chair in an upstairs room, smoking a cigarette. She told them she was fine and had no injuries or illnessness.

A police officer was called. Recchia told the officer that he had been away for 10 days and was concerned that his wife was not taking her medication.

Recchia told police that his wife "babbles" and talks a lot if she does not take her medication and that he wanted to get to sleep because he had a court date in the morning. So he called 911 so he could get medical attention for his wife more quickly.

Recchia was issued a summons for second-degree falsely reporting an incident and is scheduled to appear in Middletown Superior Court Jan. 2.
