Nov. 12--After serving in an acting capacity for nearly two years, Mark Bocian is expected to be confirmed as chief of Pittsburgh's Bureau of Emergency Medical Services next week following a confirmation hearing today with city council's standing committee.

Acting Chief Bocian, 61, has worked for the bureau since 1975, when he was hired as an emergency medical technician, and has held every title in the organization in the nearly four decades since.

"Experience-wise, I've done it all," he said.

He told council he will continue to work to improve response times, recruiting and diversity in the city's EMS bureau.

"I think we really do have good service, it's not broken," he said. "We certainly can do better."
