Dozens Hospitalized During Avicii Concert in Boston

June 26--Dozens of teenage ravers were hospitalized last night during a show at the TD Garden featuring a Swedish DJ, authorities said.

Many of those attending the electronic dance music show with DJ Avicii arrived already intoxicated, said Boston EMS Deputy Superintendent Mike Bosse.

"Fortunately no one was seriously injured. Mostly underaged kids involved in alcohol and or some illicit drugs," Bosse said. "This is a mass casualty incident that greatly impacts our resources, Boston police resources as well as area hospitals."

EMS and private ambulances transported 36 people to the hospital, and 50 more people were being treated for various conditions at the Garden, Bosse said. None of the people was suffering life-threatening symptoms, Bosse said. He said the ages of those hospitalized ranged from 16 to 25.

Numerous ambulances were on scene, and young people could be seen sitting in wheelchairs or being put on gurneys in preparation for transport. At one point a bus was called to take 10 young people to the hospital.

Boston police Superintendent in Chief William Gross said cops are investigating the incident, which he said is all too common at techno shows.

"We have our detective sergeant, detective and captain talking to officials at the Garden now," Gross said. "We will be investigating licensed premise, capacity, everything that goes with that."

Tricia McCorkle, director of communications at TD Garden, only said that there were a "number of transports due to medical issues."

Avicii is a Swedish DJ, remixer, and record producer who ranked third on DJ Magazine's annual Top 100 DJs in 2012 and 2013. He has been nominated twice for a Grammy Award.
