Ex-Detroit EMS Officer Charged With Criminal Assault of Person Under Age 13
March 11--A former Detroit EMS officer has been charged with four counts of first-degree criminal sexual conduct.
Former Lt. Dwayne Dixon, 44, resigned his position after he was taken to jail, according to Alexis Wiley, a spokeswoman for Detroit Mayor Mike Duggan.
Details on the allegations were not available today. The alleged assaults, which involve a person under the age of 13, apparently date to 2002, according to court records.
Dixon, who is free on bond, is scheduled to appear for his preliminary examination at 9 a.m. Wednesday before Judge Brian Oakley at 34th District Court in Romulus. Online records indicate Dixon's bail was previously set at $1 million, but a court clerk said that was reduced to $50,000 on Friday. Jail records indicate Dixon was booked on Wednesday.
Romulus Police appear to be handling the case. Romulus Police Capt. Derran Shelby said he would send out a press release today or Wednesday. He refused to provide any other information about the case.
Angela Minicuci, a spokeswoman for the Michigan Department of Community Health, said her department was informed of the allegations and is expected to make a determination as soon as this week on whether to revoke Dixon's paramedic license. The license, which gives a Romulus address for Dixon, was issued in 1998 and expires in 2016.
Information on Dixon's employment history was not immediately available.
The case against Dixon is the second against a public safety officer to receive attention in recent days. Last week, charges were announced against Detroit Police Officer Deon Nunlee, 40, who was accused of sexually assaulting a woman when he responded to a 911 domestic violence call.
