Pennsylvania County Lets Citizens Register Special Emergency Needs

Aaron Aupperlee

Feb. 25--Allegheny County residents with disabilities can now provide information about their potential emergency medical needs to first responders dispatched through the county's 911 system.

The county started an online special needs registry on Tuesday, establishing a voluntary way for people with physical, mental or intellectual disabilities to give health information to the Department of Emergency Services.

Information listed in the registry will appear on screens at the 911 dispatch center when an emergency call is made. That information would be shared with police officers, firefighters, paramedics and others.

More information about registry can be accessed through the county's website at www.alleghenycounty.us/specialneedsregistry.aspx.
