Life Flight Makes Emergency Landing During Transport

Jacob Seibel

Feb. 12--A Life Flight helicopter was forced to make an emergency landing at the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton International Airport on Wednesday after an engine problem occurred while it was transferring a patient, according to 911 dispatch.

The helicopter safely landed around 10:45 a.m., and medics were able to transfer the patient to another helicopter.

Matthew Van Stone, spokesman for Geisinger Health System, said the patient was being taken from Tyler Memorial Hospital in Tunkhannock to Geisinger Medical Center in Danville when a "mechanical abnormality" occurred with the helicopter.

Although he said he couldn't disclose the patient's identity or why the patient was being transferred, he did say the patient was taken to Danville without incident.

He also said the malfunction will be investigated and fixed before the helicopter leaves the ground again.
