Feb. 02--MANATEE -- Two people are dead and four others are hurt after a woman accidentally backed up her SUV into a group of people leaving a church service at a Bradenton mobile home park, according to Florida Highway Patrol and witnesses.

The accident happened shortly after 11 a.m. at the Sugar Creek Estates Mobile Home Park, 3275 26th Ave. E., just east of Mixon Fruita Farms.

According to FHP and witnesses, the woman was leaving a parking space after a church services for residents of Sugar Creek Estates and two other mobile home parks. She thought she had put her vehicle, a Chevrolet SUV, into drive but instead, when she revved the engine, the vehicle went backwards and struck six people who were standing while talking with each other.

The vehicle ended up in a nearby creek. The woman and her husband were rescued and were not injured, officials said.

"Horror."

That's how Sugar Creek Estates resident and retired EMT Muriel Watts described the tableau of injuries that lay before her as she raced to the clubhouse parking lot.

"People on the ground bleeding" Watts said. "It was a horrible sight."
