X-ray After Pa. Crash Reveals Hidden Booty
Jan. 08--Police and medical staff found a surprise when they conducted an X-ray on a Spring Grove area man who was involved in a crash in Heidelberg Township in December.
The X-ray showed that Christopher Martin Scheller Jr., 19, of no fixed address had "an abnormality in his rectum" that turned out to be a cache of illegal drugs and stolen jewelry, according to a news release issued by Southwestern Regional Police on Tuesday.
Police found a bag of synthetic marijuana, drug paraphernalia, four bracelets, four necklaces and 11 lady's rings in his rectum, police said.
Scheller at first didn't want the booty removed, but eventually gave medical staff consent to pull it out, police said.
An officer investigating the "strange occurrence" determined Scheller stole some of the items from a home in Heidelberg Township, police said.
Charges: Scheller faces charges of theft, receiving stolen property, reckless endangerment, possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, DUI, reckless driving and other charges, police said.
He remains in York County Prison on unrelated charges, police said.
Scheller was driving east on Old Hanover Road in Heidelberg Township when he lost control and crashed into a tree near Pine Drive on Dec. 1, police said.
A Southwestern Regional Police officer happened upon the crash and called for an ambulance for Scheller, who suffered non-life threatening injuries.
Police believe Scheller hid the jewelry and drugs in his rectum as the officer was approaching the crash.
Court records don't list an attorney for Scheller.
