Texas Ambulance Struck in Four-Vehicle Wreck
Nov. 20--An Austin police vehicle and ambulance were struck in a four-vehicle wreck in East Austin early Wednesday, sending two emergency responders to a nearby hospital, officials said.
The wreck happened around 2:38 a.m. near the intersection of 12th Street and Airport Boulevard when a driver struck several vehicles near the intersection, an Austin police official said.
The vehicle struck one civilian vehicle, an Austin police patrol car and an Austin-Travis County Emergency Medical Services ambulance, the official. The police car and ambulance were both stopped at a signal at the intersection when the vehicles were struck.
The driver of the vehicle police say caused the crash suffered non life-threatening injuries and was taken to a nearby hospital, the official said.
Two Austin-Travis County EMS workers were taken to a nearby hospital to be evaluated, the official said. The Austin police officer involved in the crash reported no injuries.
A patient who was being transported by the medical workers, along with two people in the civilian vehicle struck in the crash, also reported no injuries, the official said.
There was no immediate word on what caused the driver to strike the vehicles, or whether drunken driving was suspected in the incident, the official said.
Police blocked off the intersection for several hours after the crash, reopening the area around 5:30 a.m. Wednesday.
