GRAPEVINE -- A 52-year-old woman fell more than 25 feet to her death Sunday afternoon when she lost her grip while climbing at a Grapevine gym, police said.

After the fall, the woman was taken by helicopter ambulance to Parkland Memorial Hospital in Dallas; she died at the hospital, authorities said.

Police had not released the name of the woman pending notification of relatives.

The incident was reported about 5 p.m. Sunday at the Summit Climbing Gym, 1040 Mustang Drive.

The woman, who was with a friend climbing in the gym, fell about 25 to 30 feet, said police Sgt. Robert Eberling.

"It appears to be an accident," Eberling said. "The gym was closed during our investigation."

Summit officials could not be reached Sunday.

According to Summit websites, every person must fill out a liability release before climbing. The Grapevine gym is about 10,000 square feet with scaling structures.
