Boy, 3, Left Alone in Unlocked Car at S.C. Hospital
May 29--ROCK HILL -- Police arrested a Chester County man they say left a sleeping toddler in an unlocked car unattended while it was parked at a Rock Hill hospital on Tuesday.
Officers were sent to Piedmont Medical Center, where they found a boy, 3, asleep in the car with the windows down and doors unlocked, according to a Rock Hill police report. Kenneth Cooper, 24, of Edgemoor returned to the car and told police a woman, whose name he could not recall, was supposed to be watching the child.
Police determined that Cooper, who acknowledged he was the boy's caretaker, placed the boy at an "unreasonable risk of harm" and charged him with unlawful conduct of a child, the report states.
The boy was released to his mother, who was an emergency room patient at the time, the report states. By Wednesday morning, Cooper was still held at the Rock Hill jail on a $7,000 bond.
