Calif. Hospital Evacuated After Replica Grenade Found

April 29--A grenade found at a Westside Veterans Affairs hospital Monday morning that forced authorities to evacuate the building was a replica, Los Angeles County sheriff's officials said.

Deputies were called about 7 a.m. to the VA West Los Angeles Medical Center in the 11300 block of Wilshire Boulevard to respond to a possible explosive. Security guards there said they found a grenadein one of the hospital's emergency rooms.

The building was temporarily evacuated and the Sheriff's Department bomb squad responded. The explosive turned out to be a replicagrenade and people were allowed back into the building.

No arrests were made but the Sheriff's Department is still investigating, officials said.
