NYC Transit Worker Killed by Subway Train

John Valenti

April 24--A New York City Transit worker died after being struck by a subway train early Wednesday morning in Astoria, Queens, officials said.

The identity of the track worker has not been released pending notification of next of kin, MTA spokeswoman Deirdre Parker said. She said the MTA planned to release a statement about the incident later Wednesday.

The deadly accident involved a northbound E train and occurred as the train was entering the 46th Street Station at 3:21 a.m., Parker said.

The worker was performing routine track work when the accident occurred, Parker said.

New York City police and emergency medical personnel responded at 3:23 a.m. to the scene, where the worker was pronounced dead, the NYPD said in a statement. The investigation is ongoing, police said.
