2 Chicago Paramedics Injured in Ambulance, School Bus Crash
April 06--A Chicago Fire Department ambulance on its way to a call was involved in a crash with a school bus, injuring two paramedics in the Hanson Park neighborhood, officials said.
The crash happened at about 9:20 a.m. at the intersection of Grand and Central Avenues on the Northwest Side, said Chicago Fire Department Chief Joseph Roccasalva.
The ambulance was responding to a call on the 5900 block of West Grand Avenue and it is believed that the ambulance had its emergency lights and siren activated, Roccasalva said.
The driver was the only person on board the school bus at the time of the crash, said Roccasalva. He refused treatment at the scene.
The two paramedics on board the ambulance were each taken in good condition to Northwestern Memorial Hospital and the other to Resurrection Hospital with non-life threatening injuries, said Roccasalva.
The crash is being investigated, said Chicago Police Spokesman Jose Estrada.
