Officer Shot at Wisconsin Temple Speaks at Event
Sept. 17--OAK CREEK -- Brian Murphy, the police lieutenant critically wounded during the shooting rampage at the Sikh Temple of Wisconsin last month, appeared with his family at a fundraiser Sunday for victims of the attack.
Murphy, who was shot 15 times, including in the neck, by Wade Michael Page, received a hero's welcome at the event, which was held in the parking lot of a bowling alley across the street from the temple, according to a report by WTMJ (Channel 4).
Assisted by a microphone, but unable to speak above a whisper, Murphy told the crowd: "I just want to let everyone know how appreciative I am, my family is, for your kindness, prayers and support that means so much to us."
Murphy, who was celebrating his birthday, joked that he did not mind getting older.
Page killed six people before fatally shooting himself during the Aug. 5 rampage. Three others were wounded.
