Former Texas ER Physician Pleads Guilty in Drug Conspiracy

May 11--A former West Lake Hills emergency medicine doctor has asked the Texas Medical Board to revoke his license to avoid further investigation, hearings and costs, according to the board's order.

Dr. David James Jacoby, whom the board said is 63, worked as an emergency room doctor at the Hospital at Westlake Medical Center. His license revocation took effect April 13, a day after he pleaded guilty to conspiracy to distribute a controlled substance.

Federal prosecutors say he improperly prescribed thousands of doses of prescription drugs, including pills abused by his son, Brandon, who died of a overdose in 2010. Jacoby faces up to 15 years in prison.

Jacoby can ask the board to reinstate his license in a year's time. The board had suspended his license last year.

The revocation was inadvertently omitted from a list of orders the board put out late last month, officials said.
