Calif. Man Struck by Car Suffers Major Head Injuries

By Mike Rosenberg

An off-duty Santa Clara firefighter helped save a pedestrian who suffered major head injuries after a vehicle struck him in Morgan Hill on Sunday night.

Police say an unidentified 22-year-old San Martin resident was walking across Monterey Road south of the crosswalk at Cosmo Avenue at 8:30 p.m. when a vehicle hit him.

Several bystanders, including the off-duty firefighter, helped the man before police and paramedics arrived. He was taken by ambulance to Regional Medical Center of San Jose with "major head trauma," police said.

The driver, who was not named, cooperated with police and has not been arrested.
