Steve Lyttle

Dec. 22--Twelve people were injured Thursday morning in a multi-vehicle collision involving a Charlotte Area Transit System bus on North Tryon Street, authorities say.

None of the injuries appears to be life-threatening, according to a spokeswoman for Medic.

The crash happened on North Tryon Street near 16th Street. Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police closed the road in both directions for a while, but they are permitting traffic to get through the area at times. Traffic is being detoured along North Graham Street, police say.

According to initial reports, a CATS bus outbound on North Tryon Street collided with a pick-up truck. The CATS bus was carrying 20 passengers, and Medic reports 12 injuries. Seven of those hurt were taken to Carolinas Medical Center, and five went to Presbyterian Hospital.

Police are working to determine how the crash happened.
