Responding N.C. Paramedic Truck, SUV Collide

Cleve R. Wootson Jr.

Oct. 05--A paramedic truck headed to the scene of a wreck was itself involved in a collision Wednesday morning, snarling traffic on Sharon Amity Road and busy Independence Boulevard.

WSOC-TV reported that the Medic truck was headed to a collision on Sharon Amity Road at Albemarle Road when an SUV hit the Medic truck. It's unclear how seriously the people involved in the wreck were injured.

The inbound lanes of Sharon Amity Road and some lanes on Independence Boulevard are shut down. Officials have not said if anyone was seriously injured in either wreck.

Police said the initial collision at Albemarle Road involved a car that rolled through a stoplight and hit a pole. The driver was reportedly unresponsive, police said.

It's still unclear how long it will take authorities to clear the roads. Police are advising commuters to take Monroe Road as an alternate route.
