The man was found collapsed in the high lift. His boss, Hans Furrer, performed CPR on him until paramedics with AMR Norhwest ambulance and Cowlitz County Fire District 7 arrived. A Life Flight air ambulance was called to land at the Woodland Airport, but the man was pronounced dead at the scene. Firefighters from Cowlitz County responded to the report just after noon, at 418 Northwest Hayes Road. The electrocuted man was unresponsive while first responders performed CPR, according to radio traffic monitored at The Columbian. His name had not been released as of The Columbian's press time. The Clark County Sheriff's Office will be investigating, an emergency dispatcher said. Amtrak train hits SUV Longtime Vancouver attorney Michael Langsdorf was in satisfactory condition at PeaceHealth Medical Center Monday night after an Amtrak train hit his 2005 Lexus SUV. The collision happened at a private crossing west of the Interstate 205 Bridge and south of Southeast Evergreen Highway in east Vancouver. Langsdorf, 69, was the SUV's only occupant, said BNSF Railways spokesman Gus Melonas. The collision happened at about 5:30 p.m., adjacent to the 10600 block of Southeast Burlington Drive along the Columbia River, and shut down a BNSF line just off of state Highway 14 for about an hour, Melonas said. The closure delayed five freight trains. Investigators didn't find any damage to the railroad or the crossing, Melonas said. Melonas said he didn't know how fast the eastbound Amtrak train was traveling. The BNSF-owned track is used by about 30 freight trains daily, Melonas said. His car, a blue, four-door Jeep Liberty, was found at the Salmon Creek Trailhead, in the 13800 block of Northwest 36th Avenue. Two pickups collide Firefighters rushed to 5001 N.E. 259th St. on Monday afternoon to help drivers of two pickups involved in a collision. Clark County Fire & Rescue crews were called at 3:05 p.m. and arrived at 3:10 to find a large pickup on its side and a smaller pickup with heavy front-end damage, according to a bulletin Both drivers were up and walking and weren't believed to have been transported by ambulance. "Seat belts made a big difference in this accident," said Acting Battalion Chief Jesse Martin. "We urge citizens to always to always properly use their vehicle restraint systems." B.G. driver recovering A woman who was injured in a Friday night car crash east of Battle Ground is improving in a local hospital. Sharon Koistinen, 36, of Battle Ground is in serious condition at PeaceHealth Southwest Medical Center, a nursing supervisor said Monday night. She was in critical condition Sunday night. Koistinen was injured in a two-vehicle crash that was reported around 9:45 p.m. Friday. An initial investigation by the Clark County Sheriff's Office indicates Koistinen was driving her car north on Northeast 194th Avenue and was turning west onto Northeast 219th Street as another car was traveling eastbound on 219th Street at a high speed. The eastbound vehicle hit the turning car, injuring three people, the sheriff's office said. The driver of the eastbound car was Jack A. Wisti, 25, of Battle Ground, sheriff's office spokesman Scott Schanaker said. Koistinen was extricated from her car by firefighters using heavy tools. She was taken by ground ambulance to where a Life Flight air ambulance was waiting. She was then flown to PeaceHealth Southwest Medical Center. A youth in Koistinen's car and Wisti were also taken to the hospital by AMR Northwest ambulance, Schanaker said. Chief Steve Wrightson of Fire District 3 said the injuries to those two weren't thought to be life-threatening. The investigation is being forwarded to the prosecutor's office, Schanaker said.
