9/11 EMTs Want Increased Benefits

FRANKIE EDOZIEN

Several first-responders to the 9/11 attacks who worked for voluntary hospitals implored state legislators yesterday to pass an override of Gov. Spitzer's veto of a bill that gives them increased benefits.

Both Spitzer and former Gov. George Pataki knocked down attempts to treat nine emergency-medical technicians the same as city uniformed officers.

The EMTs involved are limited to a $400-per-week maximum compensation benefit, but they want federal benefits that would give them up to $20,000 more.
