Iowa Ambulance Struck by Truck
BURLINGTON, IOWA-- A Burlington Fire Department ambulance with its lights and sirens activated and on its way to a medical call was struck by a motorist's pickup who apparently tried to outrun the emergency vehicle Wednesday afternoon on Division Street.
No injuries were reported, however, Suzanne Charlene Nees, 47, Burlington was cited for failure to yield to an emergency vehicle.
Battalion Chief Bruce Workman said the care for the patient the ambulance was on its way to was not delayed.
Burlington police Sgt. Adam Schaefer said the ambulance crew was westbound on Division Street at 4 p.m. on their way to an emergency call. Fire crews reported that both lanes of traffic were stopped as they were passing.
The ambulance pulled to the northern most part of the road to turn when the pickup driven by Nees turned south by Marietta Street into the path of the ambulance.
The amount of damages to both vehicles has not been estimated.
