Another tragic air ambulance crash rocked the EMS community this week when a crew of three, along with their patient, were killed Sunday night in Texas.

The PHI Air Medical team was based at Coulter Field in Bryan, Texas, and included pilot Charles Wayne Kirby, flight nurse Jana Bishop and flight paramedic Stephanie Waters. It was revealed this week that the crew undertook the mission after a Life Flight helicopter turned back due to low clouds.

This tragedy, coming on the heels of several other fatal crashes this year, including the Wisconsin Med Flight crash in May, is bringing renewed scrutiny to the air ambulance industry.

It's been a wild week for weather, as several states suffered tornados and monumental flooding.

In one of the most high-profile natural disasters this week, a tornado struck an Iowa Boy Scout camp, killing three young teens and injuring 48 other people. At least 42 of the injured remained hospitalized Thursday morning with injuries ranging from cuts and bruises to major head trauma.

Tornados also struck Kansas on Wednesday, killing at least two people, and flooding wreaked havoc in several areas, most notably Cedar Rapids, Iowa where 100 blocks were under water.
