29 D.C. Students Hospitalized After Pepper Spray Incident

BY SUSAN NICOL KYLE

WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Pepper spray set off inside a school here Friday resulted in the transport of 29 students to area hospitals.

EMS crews as well as firefighters and a HAZMAT team responded to The Lab School on Reservoir Road after students became ill, said Pete Piringer, fire department spokesman.

After assessing the high school students involved, the department's MCI bus was used to transport 27 of them to a hospital for evaluation.

Another two students, who had previous medical issues, were transported separately by medics, he said.

A small pepper spray canister was found on the second-floor of the building.
