Skateboarder Hurt in D.C. Fire Truck Ride
02/25/2010
WASHINGTON, D.C. -- A teenage skateboarder who grabbed onto the back of a D.C. Fire Department ladder truck last night didn't get the ride he expected.
Instead of a fast zip down the street on the board, the youth wound up in the back of an ambulance for a ride to Children's National Medical Center.
"The ladder truck was pulling away from the scene of a house fire when the 14-year-old skateboarder grabbed onto the back of the truck near the tiller area," fire department spokesman Pete Piringer said.
The youth lost his grip, and sustained an injury to his foot, Piringer said, adding he didn't know the exact nature of the injury.
The boy was taken to Children's National Medical Center where he was treated.
