UK Firefighters Use Aerial to Rescue Large Woman
EMERGENCY services were forced to close the main road through Wareham town centre, yesterday, to enable firefighters and paramedics to safely manoeuvre a casualty out of a first floor window.
The female resident, described as a larger lady, had suffered a suspected broken limb upstairs in the North Street property.
Paramedics were unable to negotiate the stairwell inside the property while carrying the victim so they called in extra manpower.
Dorset Fire and Rescue Service firefighters used their aerial lifting platform to get her safely back to ground level and into a waiting ambulance.
A fire spokesman said: "We were called to an incident at 9.45am by the ambulance service. We sent along an officer, initially to assess the situation. We found we were able to provide some assistance and sent along our aerial ladder platform."
The road was closed for an hour from 11.30am.
As the Daily Echo went to press the woman was being treated in hospital.
