    ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. --

A man in Orange County is being credited with saving a neighbor's life with a belt after the victim jumped through a glass window to escape a fire in his condominium, according to fire officials.

Firefighters responded to flames at the Colonial Landings condos located near Econ and Colonial Drive early Tuesday.

During the fire, a man became trapped in his home and decided to dive head-first through his window to escape, fire officials said. However, the glass sliced his body and possibly severed an artery in his arm.

A neighbor, Alberto Morales, noticed the injured man and made a tourniquet with his belt to keep his neighbor from bleeding out, Local 6's Tiffany Tift reported.

"He said, 'I'm bleeding, I'm bleeding," Morales said. "And blood started shooting out of his arm."

Morales said he did what he had to do.

"I would want somebody to do it for me," Morales said. "If I was hurt on the ground, I would want someone to stop and take care of me."

The fire at the condo complex did not spread to nearby buildings and there were no other injuries in connection with the blaze.

"The crews put the fire out quickly so it did not extend beyond the one bedroom apartment," Orange County fire Battalion Chief Thomas Rullo said.

The state fire marshal is investigating the case of the fire.
