New NAEMT Executive Director Introduced at Annual Meeting/EMS Expo
ORLANDO, FLA. -- "It's alphabet soup to me right now." That's how the new executive director of the National Association of Emergency Medical Technicians (NAEMT) described her introduction to acronyms associated with EMS.
On her third day on the job, Pam Cohen promised the NAEMT Board of Governors that she learns quickly. "I've wrapped my arms around all those acronyms."
Cohen, who holds a master's degree in strategic communications from Seton Hal, said it's been an exciting few days. "There are so many things to learn."
NAEMT President Jerry Johnston said the group is very fortunate to have such a capable person. "We need to bolster NAEMT, and increase our membership. We've needed someone in this position for some time."
Johnston said the all-volunteer organization will now be able to focus on other issues.
Cohen's background in associations such as Rotary International and Homeowner Communities Online gives her the edge NAEMT needs, Johnston said.
Cohen said the dedication of the EMS providers has impressed her. "I'm learning they have a really good product to offer. I believe I will be successful in taking NAEMT to that next level."
The immediate goals include increasing membership and enhancing partnerships. "There are so many wonderful opportunities out there. The leadership really wants to better the organization, and I believe we'll accomplish that together. "
Cohen said while she focuses on the business part of it, the NAEMT officers can address other issues and challenges that face EMS.
"This is challenging, but fun. They are great to work with."
