Civilian Killed in Crash With Indianapolis Ambulance

INDIANAPOLIS --

One person was killed early Friday morning when an ambulance and an SUV collided on Indianapolis' north side.

The wreck happened just before 1 a.m. just north of the intersection of 16th and Illinois streets.

Officials said the driver of the SUV was killed in the wreck and the driver of the ambulance was taken to a hospital. There was no one else in the ambulance.

The victim's identity was not immediately released. Police did not immediately say how the wreck occurred.

The intersection was closed for several hours after the wreck but reopened before 6 a.m.
